Brighten a Child's Day
“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around”
— Leo Buscaglia
On a quiet Sunday evening, I walked into Max Brenner to be greeted by the ever energetic Steven and lovely Jenny. We huddled around a table upon which the green pens, hand-made badges and postcards were strewn. Not long after, our party of three became a party of eight and over hot chocolate, waffles and a pleasantly eclectic playlist, our crew got writing.
So what were we writing and to whom?
Since its emergence, Cause Corps has endeavoured to help those who desire to do good to participate in meaningful micro-volunteering opportunities. Since February, our team at HQ has coordinated and ran a mission centred on writing postcards to sick kids in the United Kingdom listed on Post Pals and Send Kids the World. These children suffer from various illnesses and injuries, and some are terminally ill.
Writing postcards is a simple way to help brighten up a child’s day as they face difficult and painful experiences in battling their illnesses. Therefore the purpose of this monthly postcard writing mission is to help bring a smile to as many children’s faces as possible. You can do this by telling a joke, a story about your pet or write about anything that you might have in common with the kids. Personally, a few of the points of commonality between myself and some of whom I've written to include a love of Disney, puzzles and Bruno Mars.
